If you were ever homeschooled, you'll understand

How does a homeschooler change a lightbulb?

First, mom checks three books on electricity out of the library, then the kids make models of light bulbs, read a biography of Thomas Edison and do a skit based on his life.

Next, everyone studies the history of lighting methods, wrapping up with dipping their own candles.

Next, everyone takes a trip to the store where they compare types of light bulbs as well as prices and figure out how much change they'll get if they buy two bulbs for $1.99 and pay with a five dollar bill.

On the way home, a discussion develops over the history of money and also Abraham Lincoln , as his picture is on the five dollar bill.

Finally, after building a homemade ladder out of branches dragged from the woods, the light bulb is installed.

And there is light.

Thank you Leah for sharing. This little joke brings back memories of basket weaving and multiple field trips to the cannal. (You'd have to be homeschooled in Toledo during the early '90's to understand)

We Moved (like a month ago)

Julie, P. Dave, Matt & me on our last Sunday in Caro
The once very cute dining room on moving day

Okay, so we moved almost a month ago...and I'm finally getting around to posting a few photos. No one will even ready this blog unless I post it on facebook (which I'll probably do) since I haven't writing anything since sometime in the winter. I've thought about giving up on this, but I just can't...not yet. If the next post takes six months then maybe.
Okay, getting back to the move... So, we left Caro four weeks ago. Somedays it feels like we just left and other days it feels like I haven't lived there in years ( I only lived there two years, so that's a bit of an exageration), I just don't know how else to say it. Today I was just reflecting on the past month, sometimes when I'm in the midst of transition I forget to live and feel. I get so caught up in the what has to be unpacked today and why is my house always trashed and where is that store and how do I get there? that I forget what's actually important. So today I was trying to not think about the nonsense and live in the present.

Mi Casa

favorite measuring cups

Kitchen cabinet (still need to put the doors back on)

dining room candles

dining room with new color and table
(still need to paint the chairs)

Over my spring break I did some serious painting and cleaning out. I repainted the dining room a nice shade of Weeping Willow (green) and repainted a new-to-me dining room table and kitchen cabinet. And got rid of lots of random junk....yay.
