The Joys of Camping:: Memory One

Well, Vanessa’s post of the cute little teardrop trailer brought back some wonderful vacation memories. My family took a few weeks out of each summer and roughed it in the wilderness together. Now my parents are serious campers, so we didn’t stay at places that had amenities like “warm water” or “flushy potties,” but we did do some amazing things like whitewater raft, mountain bike, and hike large mountains. So, here's the first of three of my most vivid memories:

The Pillow Fire
Asleep in a pop-up camper one early morning, I was startled awake by my dad who was screaming my name. So I sat up on my little bed (the four inch “couch” section of the pop-up) to see half my pillow in flames. Apparently in the night part of my pillow fell off my bed, since it’s double the width of the bed, and landed on the electric space heater. So, my dad grabs the pillow and starts running around outside with this flaming pillow, he’s completely zigzagging around the whole campground half asleep looking for a dumpster or some water or something. And there’s this giant trail of smoke following him, it was amazing and a little scary. (Thanks Dad for saving my hair, and possibly my life)

Ha ha ha ha. That's hilarious. I am looking forward to the next one. Your Mom has shared a few stories that have made me laugh about your camping trips - but this one I never heard.
Glad you aren't bald!
