The Joys of Camping:: Memory Three

Another Fire
We were finally leaving Colorado after three weeks of tenting it, so we packed up all of our tents, air mattresses, sleeping bags, everything else we had into the back of a trailer and hopped into the big red van for the long drive home. About 2.4 miles into the drive we smell smoke. We keep driving and it starts to storm, mostly just lightning, good thing we’re out of our tents and in the van. Then we look back at the trailer and see that it is in fact smoking, and wait, there are flames too. We pull over and frantically put the fire out and my parents decide that we should unload the trailer and leave it behind. So, we pile all the Rubbermaid bins into the van and drove home. The van was completely full without the seven of us, so with the exception of Ben (who was in a car seat) and the driver, we sat on top of the bins for the whole drive home.

I love this camping series, it reminds me of my family. We should all go on a giant vacation, that would be disasterous.

i must say kelly that your title "the joys of camping" and your story are quite contradictory! i prefer to think of camping as a horror... like in the story! despite how awful camping is... it does lend to the telling of innumerable hilarious stories!
